I was recently asked for some good frugal Christmas craft ideas, so I created this list. You should be able to make most of these crafts with things you have around the house. Even if you don’t have the exact supplies, I think all of these activities lend themselves well to improvising.
I am assuming you have plain paper, a pen or pencil, markers or crayons, scissors, tape and white glue. I have listed any additional items you will need next to each craft.
- Paper Plate Christmas Tree Garland (real life, one day at a time) – Paper plates, green paint. Optional decorations: construction paper, glitter, sequins, buttons, etc.
- Puffy Snowflakes (Inner Child Fun) – Heavy card stock (a cut up a cereal box will work for this), water, self rising flour (You can substitute 1/2 cup all-purpose flour plus 2 tsp baking powder), an empty dish soap bottle or similar container.
- Scrap Paper Stocking (No Time for Flash Cards) – Cardboard, construction paper, wrapping paper scraps.
- Glue Icicle (Inner Child Fun) – Colored paper, salt.
- Make your own wrapping paper (Childhood 101) – Large sheets of paper, paint, rolling pin, items with texture (bubble wrap, rubber bands, mesh bags, etc)
- Bubble Wrap Christmas Trees (No Time for Flash Cards) – bubble wrap, masking tape, paint, paper grocery bags or other heavy weight paper.
- Cardboard Holiday Banner (No Time for Flash Cards) – cardboard, paint, kitchen sponge, ribbon (I think gift curling ribbon would work). Optional: jingle bells.
- Sugar Ornaments (Play, Create, Explore) – sugar, glitter, water, cookie cutters, ribbon.
- Button Wreath (Happy Hooligans) – Buttons, pipe cleaner, ribbon.
- Coffee Filter Snowflakes (Shannon’s Tot School) – Coffee filters.
- Toilet Paper Santa & Snowman (Hedgehog Blog) & Nurture Store & Happy Hooligans Toilet paper rolls, craft paint or colored construction paper. Optional: cotton balls and red pipe cleaners.
- Paper Plate Wreath (Nuturestore) – Paper plate, paint, plastic cup, Optional: bibbon.
- Scrap Paper Christmas Tree (No Time for Flash Cards) – Brown paper grocery bag, wrapping paper scraps.
- Tin Foil Christmas Tree (Reading Confetti) – Aluminum foil, paint, Optional: glitter, pom-poms, beads, etc.
- Christmas Card Puzzle (Chasing Cheerios) – Christmas cards.
- Santa Hat & Christmas Tree Cards ( CraftoArt) – Construction paper, cotton balls or pom-poms, glitter.
- Elf Trees (Sun Hats & Wellie Boots) – Paper plate, twigs, Green paint or green tissue paper, ribbon or string, Optional Decorations: glitter glue, sequins.
- Salt Dough Ornaments ( The Imagination Tree) – Salt, flour water, an oven, Optional Decorations: paint (Although I think these look very pretty when they are unpainted too.), glitter.
- Marbled Candy Cane Garland (Growing A Jeweled Rose) – Paper, shaving cream, red food coloring, ribbon, Optional: peppermint extract.
- Advent Candles (Sun Hats and Wellie Boots) – Toilet paper rolls, paint, yellow paper or paper painted yellow (in place of the craft foam for the “flame”), Optional: glitter, electric tealight candle.
Thanks so much for including our wreath! What a super round up!
